In the kitchen, Terrance Thomas Copeland, or rather the new Maddie Lynn that Terrance was now, leaned against the counter, posing for the camera.
"So? I look amazing, don't I. I'm sure the girls and guys will.be green with surprise," Terrance announced, striking a pose that accentuated the curve of her hips. Her new body, in her twenties, exuded a suppleness, a strength Terrance hadn't felt in… well, decades.
Sandra, stirring her coffee, laughed softly. "You've always been quite the narcissist, especially about your body. No wonder it still held up so well at your age. Now you've just changed your pov."
Terrance snorted playfully. "Well, I won't deny that my old body is still a pretty good piece of meat, but it's a little too old for me. No offense." He pointed towards… well, Terrance's old body, which was currently enjoying a relaxing moment in the living room.
Sandra took a sip of her coffee, her eyes twinkling over the rim of the mug. "I'm not kidding, you are decades younger and woman. We tried, and it didn't work out, and Maddie's charm in your body fits perfectly. I have to say, I'm surprised you're so drawn to this chubby body." Her gaze traveled over Terrance's new figure, lingering on his full curves.
Without hesitation, Terrance pressed a hand to her chest as if to emphasize the point. "Chubby, maybe, but it highlights my assets even more." The playful wink was typical of Terrance, the spark of an old, confident man embodied by a chubby, young woman. But the humor quickly faded, replaced by a slight grimace. "But I admit, it still annoys me that my boyfriend, our former son, still hasn't proposed."
Sandra sighed, a familiar weariness tinging her voice. She'd heard that lament more times than she could count over the past few months. "You have to give him time; this is new to him, after all."
"I've given him months, and he still hasn't said anything. Sometimes I think about taking a few affairs with other boys, though I'm afraid then I won't be your daughter-in-law and we'll see each other less often." Terrance stomped her foot. The thought was clearly a deterrent, because the bond with Sandra, built over decades of marriage and now redefined by this surreal new family dynamic, was something Terrance treasured.
Sandra set down her mug with a clink. Her eyes, suddenly sharp and full of deliberate mischief, met Terrance's. "Don't worry, there's no chance of that. You know what, he's going on a business trip, so go with Maddie's friends—well, your friends—to Miami and spend a few nights with some other guys. Who knows? Maybe it'll work out for the best; it's worked out for us more than once. I'll cover for you if anything happens."
A smile slowly spread across Terrance's face, banishing his earlier brief anger. The suggestion hung in the air, bold and liberating.
Terrance ran across the kitchen and spontaneously hug Sandra. "And that's why I loved you."
Sandra, her shoulders shaking with quiet laughter, patted Terrance on the back. "Even in a new body, with a new purpose, some things never change."
As Terrance pulled away, her eyes sparkling, she began humming a cheerful tune, picturing herself on a Miami beach. And he/she really did look amazing, he/she thought, staring at Maddie body reflection in the mirror.
